We were also honored to hear remarks from Congressman Gary Palmer and Mayor Rick Wash. The new 120,000-square-foot warehouse will house our shipping and receiving department, finished goods inventory, raw materials, and administrative offices. This expansion provides the space needed to support future growth and continue meeting our customers’ needs.

Specification Rubber Completes Largest Expansion in Company History
The largest expansion in Specification Rubber Products’ 58-year history is now complete. On Friday, May 8, 2026, the company will celebrate the opening of its new 120,000 square-foot warehouse that will house finished goods inventory, raw materials, and administrative operations. The new facility sits on more than 16 acres in Pelham and is located less than half a mile from Spec Rubber’s manufacturing headquarters in Alabaster.
“This is Spec Rubber’s seventh expansion since opening our doors in 1968,” said Spec Rubber President Steven A. Smith. “The new facility represents our future and gives us the room we require to grow. This addition will enable us to achieve our strategic goals over the next five to 10 years and ensure we continue to meet the needs of our customers. It’s an investment in our operations, teammates and our future.”
Renovation of the new facility was completed at the end of 2025. Spec Rubber manufactures molded rubber products for the waterworks, manufacturing, energy, and public safety industries.
“As we are fond of saying, here we grow again,” said Spec Rubber Manufacturing Manager David Pruitt. “This new facility allows us to be more efficient in shipping and receiving. The additional space also allows us to bring more operations in-house and introduce more automation.”
Specification Rubber is a subsidiary of Birmingham-based AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company, founded in 1905. Spec Rubber was named the Small Alabama Manufacturer of the Year by the Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Technology Network in 2024. The company has been named a Rubber News Best Places to Work by the North American Rubber Industry for the past five years and was recognized as a finalist in the Association of Rubber Products Manufacturers’ annual Safety Awards in 2025.
Spec Rubber also received top honors for Innovation/Technology during the Birmingham Business Journal’s 2024 Manufacturing Awards. In 2026, Spec Rubber was named Top Community Supporter in the Birmingham Business Journal’s Manufacturing Awards and was honored as the Shelby County Small Business of the Year.
